One of my favorite things about painting tulips is the chance I have to position bright, back-lit petals against shadowed petals. I love the high contrast and the pop.
The light going through the petals reminds me of sliced citrus fruit in the sunshine and how the colors are clear and bright.

I love to paint large, but not small. I find myself getting very tight and paying too much attention to detail when I paint small, which is exacting the opposite of what I should be doing. You seem to be able to keep the same wonderful quality whether painting small or large. Both are beautiful.
