Peekaboo

6" x 6", oils

sold

I was driving home one winter day, taking a different route than usual, and spotted these sheep. I stopped to take their pictures and they stopped to stare at me. I thought it was funny that the sheep in the back did their best to peek around the fluffy bulk to get a look at me, thus the title.

Incidentally, the red barn does not exist in real life. The background in my photograph was just wooded, but I wanted a punch of color and somewhere for the path to end up, so I stuck in a barn. I like it. What do you think?

Funny Ears

16" x 20" oils
sold

It was such a beautiful evening in Santaquin when I photographed these horses. I painted this painting alla prima which means all at once while the paint was all still wet. The hardest part was the mare's mane. I love the fresh colors and immediacy of doing a painting all at once.

Top-heavy

12 3/4" x 8 3/4", oils
sold

At first I was worried my colors were too bright, but they are just what the painting needed. I am sure my palette was influenced by my visit last week to the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in Vermont. Imagine two-toned cows on every wall painted with contrasting colors: Andy Warhol meets Willy Wonka. It was awesome, and the ice cream wasn't half bad either.

Summer Morning

14" x 18", oils
sold

This is the painting I did today; it was great to be back in the studio after a short trip back East. When I went to look for horses to paint, I went for a drive in the early morning light and found this beauty.  I love her dark muzzle and the reflective light on her tail.

Plein Air Festival

I spent the whole day in my art booth. Tomorrow will be the day my husband mans the booth and I get to be out painting en plein air on the grounds. It was really nice to rub shoulders with some great artists today and talk business.

Home Sweet Home...but kind of hot...

A painting-in-progress that I worked on during the day. I forgot to take the final photo once it was done, and it's sold, so oh well. A lot of people stopped to watch me paint, which was the general idea. I loved the attention.
