Newport, Oregon: Kite Flying @ Dusk
12" x 14 1/2" oil on birch panel
sold
I was in Oregon for a while. In the evening I snapped this photo of a family flying a kite; it was so windy - I mean, blow-your-clothes-right-off windy. I was surprised the little boy holding the kite didn't disappear.
I am glad I didn't paint the line between the kite and the boy holding the kite. For some reason, the painting works better with the line being implied.

24" x 17 1/2", oils

I painted this outside on a bright, sunny day. I wanted to set my easel up outdoors to paint such a botanical piece. It was a lot of fun. I used the oils in a very washy, wet way and so the painting has many interesting "watermarks" in the paint strokes.
