Summer

5 1/2" x 5 3/4", oils

sold

This is the latest of my portrait commissions.  I start with a brush that's 1/4" wide and finish with a brush that is literally a millimeter wide. If I have painted a shadow in the wrong place, even if it's off by only a millimeter, the face is all wrong and doesn't match the subject. No kidding.

This is my work area.

Grandpa

10" x 8", oils and charcoal pencil

This is a portrait I finished today of my Grandpa. He founded a fruit orchard seventy-five years ago or so and to this day works his land. He is the strongest man I know! This picture is how I will always remember him - dirty jeans and a shovel in his hand. This painting is a gift for my mother for Christmas.

Carthage

38" x 32" oils
sold
I went to Carthage a few years ago and snapped a photo, then a year later started this painting. You can see in the above photographs the process. Every brick was carefully drawn to size, including the cracks, and it shows in the final painting. I started this painting in one state, moved to a new state, and finished it there. That was interesting. The first thing I painted was the well's dark side, and the last things I painted were the little reflective leaves at the top.

All of these pieces are mounted on 3/4" birch and ready to hang with a sawtooth hanger already installed. I first drew the picture with pen and ink, watercolored it, then mounted it with a collage of scrapbook paper, ribbon, and/or embellishments onto the birch. The sides are painted a coordinating color. They are really cute and the perfect addition to any animal-lover's collection! E-mail me if you'd like one: paintergirl@byu.net.

There are many people in the world who think God is dead, but I am not one of them. He got me through a hard time, and these paintings were the end product.
