Flare

Once every couple of months, a painting will give me fits. Some of you may be thinking, "hey, we've seen this tulip painting, but it's different now..." Well, you're not crazy. Let me explain:
I painted Flare a few weeks ago, posted it on this blog, but really didn't like it. The background color was too ochre and the flower didn't pop. The next day I reworked the background but the paint was like peanut butter, and the whole thing was a mess. I put it against my wall and forgot about it.

Today, it was the day to repair Flare (ha, that rhymes) and I am very happy with the colors now. Everything needed to go towards the burnt sienna end of the spectrum, and the green playing in the background is a needed contrast.

You're right, the burnt-sienna-tone was so good for this painting.

Yay for you being all cool and knowing what it needed to be awesome!
